Sad Sack Cannonballers Lose 7th Straight
|
The Newark Flyers picked up a win at Newark Fields, knocking off the Cottage City Cannonballers, 4-2. Starting pitcher Danny Vollmer was a big reason why. The win went to Nick Compean in relief, making him now 2-2. Jim Unknown took the loss for Cottage City. The slumping Cannonballers have dropped 7 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Joaquin Gomez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cottage City pitcher Jim Unknown, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Newark on top, 3-2.
"Danny showed what he's made of," said Newark manager Matt Conners.
