Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Glace Bay Miners and Huntsville Rockets.
Jim Gavilanes helped his team muscle past the Huntsville Rockets, 4-0. In the game, the Glace Bay shortstop went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Tarjei Wiese, the winner, improved to 1-2. He held the Rockets to no runs on 3 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 4.
With Glace Bay leading 1-0 in the top of the ninth, Gavilanes batted against Huntsville pitcher Mike Watts. Gavilanes hit a cutter to left for a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season put the Miners on top, 4-0.
"I thought we played a nice game," Gavilanes told the Glace Bay Today. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
With the win, Glace Bay goes to 25-11, while the Rockets fall to 14-22.
