In a low-scoring contest between the Grand Rapids Jet Hawks and the Glace Bay Miners, Matt Lavender, who is tied for 3rd in the N-A in quality starts with 3, proved to be the difference. The Grand Rapids right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Jet Hawks win. The winner was Satoshi Nishiyama in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Joel Edmondson took the loss. The loss drops Glace Bay to 14-12.
Mike Hedger came through with a big-time hit for Grand Rapids. The pinch hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Grand Rapids manager Sadayuki Nishikawa called it "a pretty good win."
