Miami Hands Hialeah 5-2 Defeat
|
The Miami Boll Weevils beat the Hialeah Firecats, 5-2, with major props going to first baseman Steve Bailey. On the day, Bailey was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times for the Boll Weevils. Alan Malinowski went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The left-hander struck out 2 and walked 3. With the win, he ups his record to 1-2 this season. Dave Vondrasek earned the save for Miami.
It could have been a different outcome for Miami, had it not been for Greg Moreno, the 26-year old right fielder . Moreno contributed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Miami up, 2-0.
"Nervous? No," said Bailey. "It was my time to shine."
The Boll Weevils are now 17-18, while the Firecats fall to 14-21.
