Scorpions Suffer 3-1 Home Defeat
|
With left fielder Ken Gavin leading the charge, the Augusta Capitols defeated the Sonoma Scorpions, 3-1, at Ballpark of North Richland Hills. Gavin, who is tied for 4th in the W-AA with a 1.183 OPS, went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Max Hercules. He tossed 88 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Jeff Cox finished the game for Augusta and earned his 6th save.
Gavin had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 0-1 fastball from Dusty Milligan, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Capitols a 2-0 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Gavin.
Gavin attributed the win to "an all-around good team performance."
Losses have been few and far between for the Scorpions, now 15-4.
