Firecats Pull Out Late-Game Win, 7-6
|
In a tight contest at Firecats Ballpark, the Hialeah Firecats edged the Cincinnati Bombardiers by the score of 7-6. Hialeah designated hitter Rusty Turner, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. David Valdez, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Earning his 1st save for Hialeah was Greg Gregor.
Had Francisco Flores not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Flores hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Firecats.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Turner.
The win takes Hialeah to 2-7.
