The Washington Wildthings earned a close win over the Winchester Mountaineers, thanks in part to Ken Hicks. The Washington left-hander, who is rated as the 66th best prospect by BNN, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Hicks, now 2-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Nick Sullivan earned the save for Washington, his 4th of the year.
Washington used a well-timed hit by Raul Campos to capture the win. The shortstop socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Wildthings ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Campos called the win "a team effort."
With the win, last-place Washington is 28-108.
