Stack Goes Off, But Mountaineers Win
|
Despite a fine performance by center fielder Jody Stack, the Washington Wildthings lost to the Winchester Mountaineers, 14-4. Stack belted 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. Jeremy Hewes, who is tied for 4th in the E-AA with a 2.71 ERA, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. The Mountaineers have an impressive 99-36 record.
Jake Densberger hit a grand slam home run off Jim Hodgins in the bottom of the second, which put the Mountaineers ahead, 5-1. In addition to the homer, Densberger had 1 double, while going 2 for 5.
"We knocked the fire out of the ball," said Winchester manager Mitchell Young. "The guys swung the bats pretty good, and that's fun to see."
