Mountaineers Absorb 2-0 Home Loss
|
Mountaineers Park was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
Antonio Mendoza, who is tied for 3rd in the E-AA with a 7.9 K/9 rate, propelled his team to victory over the Winchester Mountaineers. The final score was 2-0, Riverside. The winning pitcher was Mendoza, now 10-3. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Dennis Cambridge earned the save for Riverside, his 9th of the year.
Ken Fortin came through with a big-time hit for Riverside. The shortstop smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 2-0. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Mendoza called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
Riverside now sits at 74-36, while Winchester falls to 79-31.
