Villarreal Homers Twice in 12-4 Mountaineers Win
|
The Winchester Mountaineers powered past the Washington Wildthings, 12-4, at Mountaineers Park. Marcos Villarreal hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice, to lead the charge. The winning pitcher was Ricardo Martinez. His record now stands at 4-0. The left-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits for the Mountaineers. Kyle Julias sewed up the save, his 1st.
Ryan Barker had a big bases-clearing double for the Mountaineers in the bottom of the first inning. With Winchester leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 23-year old left-handed pitcher Jim Unknown and swatted a double to right. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mountaineers ahead, 4-0.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Barker told the Winchester Gazette.
The losing skid has reached 6 games for Washington.
