Mountaineers Fall Short, 2-1, at Washington
|
The Winchester Mountaineers got a sterling performance from pitcher Jeremy Hewes, but the Washington Wildthings still prevailed, 2-1. Hewes threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. The win went to Bill Gallihugh in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jeremy Hewes took the loss. Alex Herrera earned the save for Washington, his 1st.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Wildthings had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when catcher Jim Unknown hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Jeremy Hewes and made the score 1-0, Wildthings. Unknown went 1 for 3.
Washington manager Danny Sanchez praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The win gives the Wildthings a record of 5-32.
