Cougars Upend Mountaineers, 5-3
|
The Rohnert Park Cougars knocked off the Winchester Mountaineers, 5-3, in Eastern AA action at Mountaineers Park. Rohnert Park pitcher and Barahona, Dominican Republic, native Antonio Renteria had an outstanding performance. Renteria, now 2-2, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Jason Ginty earned the save, his 3rd.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from designated hitter Mike Gohlke. For the game, Gohlke went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Rohnert Park a 2-0 lead.
Rohnert Park manager Ramiro Mendiola called it "a good, solid win."
Rohnert Park occupies 5th place in the Eastern AA Southen Division at 14-19.
