Fans watched the Corpus Christi Mermen and the Traverse City Bears fight to the finish.
Starting pitcher Scott Foote gave the Corpus Christi Mermen a rock-solid effort. The Pecan Acres, Texas native helped his team defeat the Traverse City Bears, 3-2, at Mermen Field. With the win, Corpus Christi has a record of 15-20. Traverse City falls to 17-18.
Had Julio Pacheco not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Pacheco hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Mermen.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Mermen manager Arturo Colon.
