Big Day for Valent as Running Rebels Down Polecats, 9-5
With Jeff Valent leading the charge, the Fresno Running Rebels defeated the Libertyville Polecats, 9-5. Valent went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Running Rebels. Dennis Gronewold, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Marvin Henderson closed it out for Fresno, earning his 1st save.

Clay Tucker had a big 3-run home run for the Running Rebels in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Fresno trailing 5-4 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Ruben Moralez and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Running Rebels ahead, 7-5.

"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Valent.

With the win, Fresno elevates its record to 3-1.
