Mountaineers Need Extra Innings to Top Eskimo Brothers, 6-3
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Encinitas Eskimo Brothers home opener. Jose Rivera started for the home team against Tristan Fry for the Winchester Mountaineers. The Eskimo Brothers were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-3, Winchester, in 10 innings. Tristan Fry, though, was impressive. Frank Sarabia, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Winchester used the timely hitting of Paul DeVaul to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mountaineers on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," DeVaul told the Winchester News.
