Tucson got a decent performance from pitcher Bill Meyers, but it wasn't enough to beat the Westwood Bruins. Westwood won the Jackie Robinson Stadium contest, 5-3. Meyers threw 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Danny Martinez nailed down his 11th save. The win elevated the Bruins to 26-18.

The Bruins got a big hit from shortstop Jim Unknown. In the bottom of the sixth, Unknown smacked a 2-run home run off Tucson pitcher Luis Mora. It was his 1st home run of the season. Suddenly, the Bruins were ahead, 4-3.

"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Unknown told the Westwood News.
