Hickory Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
The Hickory Crawdads took Westwood pitcher Scott Staffieri's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Crawdad Park. The final score had Hickory getting past the Bruins, 3-2. Staffieri went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 5. The winner was Jon Reynolds in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Sam Crider took the loss. For Westwood, now 2-10, the season is off to a dismal start.

The decisive blow was delivered by Jose Valdez in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 37-year old right-handed pitcher Alpha Fields to win the game for Hickory. The home crowd went nuts.

"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Hickory field general Ray Sanchez.
