The Montreal Royals weathered a fine game by Portland third baseman Josh Kelly to upend the Mad Ants, 7-4, at Turtles Ballpark. Kelly was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Montreal reliever David Tirado picked up the win, upping his record to 3-6. Junior Millner absorbed the loss. Chase Harriger sewed up the save, his 23rd.

Had Justin Phelps not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Phelps hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Royals.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Phelps.

With the win, Montreal pushed its record to 41-40.
