Mad Ants Flatten Royals, 9-4
|
The Portland Mad Ants besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Montreal designated hitter Sam Salas by beating the Royals, 9-4, at Mad Ants Ballpark. Salas was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Oscar Orduno earned the win for Portland. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 6-4. The Mad Ants bumped their record to 34-26 with this latest triumph.
Josh Kelly, who is tied for 6th in the SC with a .505 slugging percentage, took Montreal hurler Antonio Alvarez deep in the bottom of the third. His 3-run home run put the Mad Ants on top, 4-2. In all, Kelly had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Portland manager Will Berman.
