Muskies Need Extra Frames to Get Past Matadors
|
The Glendale Muskies faced a tough opponent in Hartford pitcher Nate Benson, but still scratched out a win at Field of the Muskies by a final score of 2-1 in 12 innings. Benson went 8.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Glendale pitcher Brent Kuest earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Terry May suffered the loss. Glendale, at 22-20, occupies 5th place in the Stars Conference West Division.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 12th, 22-year old first baseman Javy Villapando had a chance to be the hero. Hartford pitcher Terry May wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, Villapando drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Muskies had themselves a thrilling win.
In postgame remarks, Villapando applauded his team's "resolve."
