Doyle Helps Matadors Defeat Royals, 7-5
|
The 7-5 Hartford win over Montreal was due largely to Steve Doyle. The Matadors third baseman was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Tony Morales picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 2-0. Ken Yates picked up the save for Hartford, his 11th of the year.
Doyle made an early impact for Hartford when he stroked his 1st home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which came in the top of the third, put the Matadors on top, 5-1.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Doyle told the Hartford Citizen. "You win just by scoring more runs."
The 4th-place Matadors have a record of 20-21.
