Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Laredo Ghosts and Nashville Lasers.

The Laredo Ghosts faced a tough opponent in Nashville pitcher Nelson Martinez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Lasers Ballpark by a final score of 6-4. Martinez went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Laredo reliever Adam Appelbaum was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Matt Pfluger.

Laredo used a clutch hit from Ross Gotch to snatch the win. The left fielder belted a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ghosts ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit, but it was huge.

"They beat us fair and square," Nashville skipper Kenny McElhaney said.

The win gives Laredo a season record of 18-17.
