Lasers Drop Mad Ants, 5-3
|
The Nashville Lasers defeated the Portland Mad Ants, 5-3. Left Fielder Steve Fites deserved a large share of the credit. Fites went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Lasers. The winning pitcher was Pat Higginbotham. He tossed 91 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Malcolm Freeman got the save, the 4th for him this season.
Nashville used a clutch at-bat from Jamie Bender to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Lasers ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Fites expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
The Mad Ants fall to 7-11 and continue their lackluster start to the 2026 season.
