Savannah beat Montgomery on the strength of starting pitcher Steve Shewmaker's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 7-0. The Alpines improved their record to 15-14 by beating Montgomery.

The tension was thick in the top of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and Montgomery trailing 3-0, Steve Shewmaker had to get a big out. On a 0-2 fastball, he retired Mario Garcia, who struck out.
