Alpines Get Clutch Win, 2-1
|
The Newport News Wranglers got a superb performance from pitcher Alex Gonzales. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Savannah. The Alpines won the game, 2-1. Gonzales threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball. Jeff Eddins got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The win makes Savannah 19-26.
The decisive moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Savannah. That's when Mike Fitzgerald hit a run-scoring double off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Jonathan Aubry to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Ryan Allen.
