Lubbock wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Luis Najera, falling to the Joilet Jesters, 3-2. Najera threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. The win puts Joilet at 1-1.

The decisive blow was delivered by Maurice Patterson in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a 2-run home run off 31-year old left-handed pitcher Nick Wolfe to win the game for Joilet. The home crowd went nuts.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Patterson told the Joilet Daily.
