Newport Upended, 4-2, by Little Rock
|
The Little Rock Golden Gophers converted a terrific effort from starter Andy Yule into a win over the Newport Unicorns at Little Rock Grounds. The Golden Gophers won the game by a final score of 4-2. Mike Collins snagged the win in relief. He goes to 5-0 on the season. Jose Garcia suffered the loss. The Sub League 1 Central Division-leading Golden Gophers have a record of 38-9.
Had Bobby Barnes not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Barnes hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Golden Gophers.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Barnes.
