The Providence Hex did just enough to sneak past the Greensboro Naturals, 4-3, at Naturals Grounds. Providence pitcher Ed Gonell, in particular, had a standout performance. Gonell got the win, improving to 3-4. He gave up 8 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Providence has now won 8 straight, while the Naturals have lost 3 in a row.

Jesus Ayala chipped in for Providence, stroking a crucial run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning. For the game, the third baseman was 2 for 4 with a double.

"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Providence manager Dave Hale.
