Ontiveros Helps Providence Bombard Newport
The Providence Hex got their 2024 ABA Class A- season off to a good start, defeating the Newport Unicorns, 17-4. Bob Ontiveros set the pace. He was 4-6 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 5. Juan Ramirez, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Newport to 2 runs on 6 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts.

With Providence leading 10-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Ontiveros came up to bat against Newport pitcher Alex Almanza. Ontiveros hit a slider to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Hex on top, 14-2.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Dave Hale said.
