Despite a great performance by San Diego designated hitter Dale Day, the Maine Pines defeated the Fleet by the score of 4-3 at Hannaford Dome. Day was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times, but he could not prevent the Pines from moving one game closer to the Championship Series. Maine now leads the Divisional Series 2-0.

Jose Valverde broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Pines in front, 4-3. For the game, Valverde was 1 for 3.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Valverde.

The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 7th , 2023 at San Diego Stadium in San Diego.
