Providence played host to Newport at Ballpark of Providence.
Providence first baseman Ruben Guevara had a 4-RBI game, which proved instrumental to his team beating the Newport Unicorns, 9-4. Guevara picked up 2 singles and 1 double in the ballgame. Davis Novoa went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. The left-hander struck out 7 and walked 1. With the win, he ups his record to 2-0 this season.
Brock McLean had a big 3-run home run for the Hex in the bottom of the first inning. With Providence leading 4-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Jonathan Weaver and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hex ahead, 7-3.
Guevara was taciturn after the game. "A win's a win," he said.
No one expected much of this team, but the hot start by Providence might have some re-evaluating their pre-season predictions. This latest win lifts their record to 11-7.
