The Augusta Capitols went the distance and then some at Vail Grounds to drag themselves back into a tie with the Vail Tigercats.
It took 12 innings to settle Game 2 of the Division Series, but Augusta eventually took the 2-1 win behind the efforts of pitcher Ben Calder. Calder threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball to aid the Augusta cause. The clubs are now tied 1-1 in their best-of-7 series.
Augusta needed the clutch hitting of Derek Vance to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Capitols on top, 2-1. For the game, Vance had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"Ben did what Ben does," said Augusta manager Chris Clarke.
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, September 10th , 2024 at The Capitol Dome in Augusta.
