Weatherspoon Tags Cubs for 5 Hits Monday, September 2nd , 2024 Even as a kid, Christian Weatherspoon said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Franklin Park, Weatherspoon showed how well he learned that lesson. The 18-year-old catcher had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Borrego Springs Rams, helping his team knock off the Franklin Cubs by a score of 18-5. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Christian Weatherspoon singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and flied out in the 8th.
