Lincoln Stops Melo Hit Streak
Monday, September 2nd , 2024
It was the best of both worlds for the Lincoln Princes at Wegman's Field, as they defeated the Buffalo Bellflowers, 5-4, and also snapped Alex Melo's 24-game hitting streak. The 20-year-old Buffalo third baseman failed to get a hit in 1 at-bat.
"Nothing personal against Melo, we just wanted to win the game," said Princes skipper Jorge Vasquez. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Melo frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won."
This season, Melo is batting .419 with 44 home runs.
