Southern Conference Top Player Is Dawson
Wednesday, October 18th , 2023
At the age of 20, Justin Dawson of the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2023 was good enough to win the designated hitter the Southern Conference Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .304 batting average this year, as well as a .456 on-base percentage. He played 140 games and racked up 151 hits, 17 doubles, 1 triple, 71 home runs, 142 RBIs and 149 runs scored.
He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Alex Mareno of the San Bernardino Flight finished second in voting, while Justin Kelley of the Chuluota Imperials finished third.
