Best SC Reliever Named Saturday, October 14th , 2023 David Koontz said he thinks hitters often underestimate him, as he's only 22 years old. But he'll certainly be getting a lot more respect now, as the Jacksonville Nationals rising star has won the Southern Conference Reliever of the Year Award for 2023. He captured the award on the strength of his 2.02 ERA over 106.2 innings. He also had 10 saves in 57 relief appearances, 131 strikeouts and only 23 walks. He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Cody Fields of the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes finished second in voting, while Sean Moss of the Ft. Wayne Earthquakes finished third.
