After a 5-hit effort to lead Whitby's 21-6 victory over the Long Island Torpedoes, shortstop Jake Criscuolo told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Rookie League-level is really something special."

The 18-year-old player earned his accolades at Eláguila Stadia with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Torpedoes.

"His swing is getting there," said Bats skipper Mike Boyd, who spoke glowingly of Criscuolo after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jake did that to perfection."

Jake Criscuolo singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Malcolm Robinson in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Takuya Miyamoto in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 7th.

Criscuolo is currently batting .469 with 26 home runs and 73 RBIs.
