Fernandez Belts Bunch of Base Hits Sunday, May 11th , 2025 Jose Fernandez was unstoppable, but the Whitby Bats were not. Despite his hitting heroics at Centerville Grounds, the Bats lost, 14-12, to the Long Island Torpedoes. Fernandez battered Long Island for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. His only consolation will be a boost in his batting average and a brief mention in the record book. Fernandez just shook his head after the game, telling BNN reporters, "It's the team with the most runs that wins, not the most hits." Jose Fernandez flied out in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
