Mathis Touches All Bases, Hits for Cycle Friday, April 28th , 2023 Adam Mathis did everything he could for the Terra Linda Chargers -- literally. The 20-year-old second baseman hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Chargers, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Long Island Torpedoes, 5-4, at Centerville Grounds. "Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Mathis reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat." In a game headed for the record books, Mathis banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck." "A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle." Adam Mathis tripled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Manny Acosta in the 8th.
