Zanghi Scorches Panthers for 3 HR Wednesday, May 3rd , 2023 The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Virginia Tech left fielder Jimmy Zanghi tripled up on the home runs to propel the Hokies to a win, 9-8, at Charles L. Cost Field. "We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Pittsburgh manager Tom Fleeman said. "Zanghi hit the heck out of the ball." In addition to the homers, Zanghi collected 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings." Jimmy Zanghi hit a solo-shot off Brian Herman in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Brian Herman in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Bryce Lowe in the 5th, struck out in the 6th and grounded out in the 9th. This year, Zanghi is hitting .278 with 47 hits, 12 home runs, 28 RBIs and has scored 30 runs. |
