The inspired effort of Haviland first baseman Bryan Valenta was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-4, to the Jacksonville Nationals. Valenta went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Victor Joya earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 2-0. Earning his 5th save of the year was Eric Grace.

Yoshitimo Hirata had a big 2-run triple for the Nationals in the top of the fourth inning. With Jacksonville leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Bert Juarez and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nationals ahead, 5-1.

"We ground out the win," said Hirata. "That's all that matters."

Jacksonville is now 20-19, while Haviland is 22-17.
