Torpedoes Win at Home, 5-4
|
The Long Island Torpedoes picked up a win at Centerville Grounds, knocking off the Plymouth Rockers, 5-4. Starting pitcher Sergio Tapia played a key role in the triumph. The win was credited to 18-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Rodriguez in relief. His record improves to 2-8. Jim Unknown took the loss. Long Island has now won 3 in a row.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Omar Carrillo was at the plate when Long Island scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Torpedoes to go in front, 5-4.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Carrillo.
