Pirates Win Squeaker, 5-4, Over Bats
|
Getting a good performance from center fielder Mark Thompson, the Saint Pierre and Miquelon Pirates defeated the Whitby Bats, 5-4. Thompson slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Pirates. Saint Pierre and Miquelon reliever Zach Heller picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tyler Rotella absorbed the loss. The Pirates go to 60-63, putting them 4th in the Northern Conference West Division.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the 11th. With Saint Pierre and Miquelon trailing 4-3, Thompson jumped on a fastball from 18-year old right-handed pitcher Tyler Rotella and hit a 2-run home run to right-center. With one swing, the Pirates had a walk-off win.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Thompson said in his postgame press conference.
