Mike Bruce, who is tied for 8th in the NC with a 0.95 WHIP, was in top form in a tight contest between Franklin and Whitby. The Cubs right-hander helped his team beat the Bats, 2-0. Doug Voeller earned the save for Franklin, his 4th of the year. The triumph puts Franklin at 37-37 for the season.

The outcome was still in doubt in the top of the ninth inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and Whitby trailing 2-0, Doug Voeller needed to get a big out. On a 1-0 slider, Ryan Riggs grounded out, putting the kibosh on a potential rally.
