Boilermakers Prevail, as Sweet 16 Goes to the Wire
|
It was a rousing finish to the Sweet 16 at Frank Eck Stadium today.
The Purdue Boilermakers sent the Notre Dame Fighting Irish home for the season with a 8-2 win in the decisive game of the series.
The Boilermakers took the series 2-1. Up next on their schedule is the Elite 8.
Hauling in the MVP trophy was Purdue catcher Josh Giunta. His numbers included a .429 batting average, 4 RBIs and 2 runs.
"With any luck, I'll be hoisting another one of these at the end of the Elite 8," he said.
The Purdue Boilermakers will play against the Virginia Cavaliers in the next round. Virginia won their series against the Illinois Fighting Illini 2 games to 1. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes.
