With Late Score, Torpedoes Beat Bellflowers
|
Starting pitcher Steve Quintero gave the Long Island Torpedoes a rock-solid performance, helping them defeat the Buffalo Bellflowers, 2-1, in 16 innings. Manny Acosta snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-1 on the season. Marco Brederode suffered the loss. Long Island is now 14-27. Buffalo is 27-14.
The game-ending blow was delivered by Sean Day in the bottom of the 16th. That's when he hit a solo home run off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Marco Brederode to win it for Long Island and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.
"Steve's a gamer," said Long Island manager Victor Sepulveda. "Glad he's on our side."
