Fans of the Whitby Bats who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Whitby win over the visiting Long Island Torpedoes, 3-2. Vinny Padilla started for the home team against Steve Quintero. Steve Quintero earned accolades for his performance.

Whitby got a knockout punch from Danny Walker. The right fielder hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"That's baseball," said Long Island manager Victor Sepulveda. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
